Besides a lazy husband and the 13 “yule lads”, Grýla also has a cat, known as Jólakötturinn (the Yule Cat). This monstrous cat stalks the countryside and devours anyone who has not received new clothing. It’s a perfect way to have children appreciate the pair of knitted socks they might find under the tree!

This design measures 173 crosses in width and 201 crosses in height. It has a total of 18913 crosses Below is an estimate of the finished stitched size on various counts of linen / Aida. It also gives a floss amount, calculated for 6-stranded floss skeins of 8 metres. Please be aware that most hand-dyed floss brands have a length of 8 yards (7.3 metres). Multiply recommended skeins by 1.1

28ct linen / 14ct aida: 12 ⅜” x 14 ⅜” (31.5 x 36.5cm) – 11 skeins, with 2 strands
32ct linen / 16ct aida: 10 ⅞” x 12 ⅝” (27.5 x 32cm) – 10 skeins, with 2 strands
36ct linen / 18ct aida: 9 ⅝” x 11 ⅜” (24.5 x 28.5 cm) – 9 skeins, with 2 strands
40ct linen / 20ct aida: 8 ⅝” x 101/8” (22 x 25.5) – 4 skeins, with 1 strand
